Phuket: an island guide beyond the shoreline

How to read Phuket’s west-coast beaches, Old Town streets and connections to Phang Nga Bay.

Understand the island

Phuket is an island province in southern Thailand, linked to the mainland by road bridges. Phuket Town lies inland on the southeast side, while many beach districts line the west coast.

Plan by area

The airport is in the north. Patong, Kata and Karon are farther south along the west coast, and road journeys between districts can take time. Phuket Town offers streets associated with the island’s trading history.

Use the water carefully

Boat conditions and schedules depend on weather and operator decisions. Use licensed operators, follow local warnings and treat published journey times as estimates.
