Taipei, from temple courtyards to the skyline
Our suggested three-day Taipei visit combines Lungshan Temple and Dihua Street, the National Palace Museum, and a choice of Beitou or a Xinyi skyline outing. Choose one main outing each morning and check the weather before adding a hike. The food recommendations focus on dishes rather than named restaurants, so choose a venue that fits your route. The outline below is flexible, not a timed tour.

Best Things to Do in Taipei
Lungshan Temple: look beyond the entrance
Lungshan Temple in Wanhua brings Buddhist, Taoist and Confucian deities into a complex of halls and courtyards. Look up at the roof decorations: dragons, phoenixes and other auspicious figures reward a slower visit. Our suggestion is to follow the layout from the front hall towards the main and rear halls, keeping clear of people worshipping. Put your camera away for part of the visit and give the details your attention.[2]
Dihua Street and Dadaocheng
Dihua Street belongs to historic Dadaocheng, a trading area whose history reaches back to the late Qing period. The city tourism page describes shops selling tea, Chinese medicinal herbs and wholesale cloth. Browse one short section at a time, and ask before taking photographs inside shops. Check individual shops for their current opening arrangements rather than treating the street listing as shop hours.[3]
Xiangshan: make the view optional
Xiangshan, or Elephant Mountain, is a hiking outing in the southeastern part of Xinyi District. The city tourism authority highlights views across the Taipei Basin and towards Taipei 101. Choose it for an outdoor break, not as a compulsory sunset appointment. Our advice is to check conditions before setting out, carry water and turn back if the outing stops feeling comfortable. A clear view is a bonus, not a promise.[4]
Beitou Hot Spring Museum
Beitou Hot Spring Museum occupies a former public bath from the Japanese colonial era. Its brick-and-wood building offers a way into the area’s hot spring history without making bathing the purpose of your visit. Our suggestion is to start with the museum and let what you learn shape the rest of the outing. Check the museum’s current visitor information before travelling; treat any separate bathing experience as another decision, not something included here.[5]
National Palace Museum
The National Palace Museum combines a palace-style building with an extensive collection of ancient Chinese artifacts. Make this your main cultural outing rather than an extra stop squeezed between meals. Our suggestion is to choose a few displays and read their interpretation carefully instead of trying to finish the collection. Check the current exhibition programme before going, and avoid building your day around seeing a specific object unless its display is confirmed.[6]
Taipei 101 and the Xinyi shopping area
Taipei 101 contains a high-end shopping mall in Xinyi District; Taipei 101/World Trade Center is one of the nearby MRT stations listed by the tourism authority. Our suggestion is to make the building and surrounding streets a short architectural outing even if shopping is not your priority. Keep this separate from an observatory plan: check the operator’s current access arrangements before deciding whether an upstairs visit belongs in your day.[7]
A taste of the city
What to Eat and Where
Breakfast
Savoury soy milk and egg crepes
Taipei’s tourism food guide pairs savoury soy milk with a broader breakfast culture that includes egg crepes. Our suggestion is to make this an unhurried first meal rather than queue for a named shop. Choose one main dish first and add something else only if you are still hungry.[8]
Choose a venue and check its own current arrangements.
Noodle dish
Beef noodle soup
Beef noodle soup comes with different broths, including braised, clear-stewed and tomato versions in the city’s food guide. Ask which style is being served before ordering. Our suggestion is to make it a seated lunch on a museum or walking day, rather than a snack between other full meals.[8]
Choose a venue and check its own current arrangements.
Dessert
Tofu pudding
Tofu pudding, or douhua, is one of the traditional desserts highlighted in Taipei’s 2023 tourism food article, which lists examples in Ningxia and Beitou. Use those locations as starting points, not confirmation that a particular shop is still operating. Our suggestion is to choose it as a separate afternoon stop, with current venue details checked before travelling.[8]

Dessert
Shaved ice
Taiwanese shaved ice allows a choice of toppings; the official food guide mentions taro balls and tapioca among them. Check the available combinations at your chosen shop rather than assuming every topping will be offered. Keep this as an alternative to tofu pudding, not another compulsory stop.[8]

Night-market dishes
A small night-market tasting
Taipei’s food guide highlights these night markets and snacks including stinky tofu and oyster omelette. Our suggestion is to choose one market and a few dishes rather than try to visit several in one evening. Ask about ingredients and preparation if you have dietary restrictions; do not assume a dish suits them.[8]

Arriving through Taoyuan
Taoyuan Airport MRT Express services connect Taipei Main Station (A1) with Terminal 1 (A12) and Terminal 2 (A13). The operator identifies Express trains as purple and Commuter trains as blue. Check the current service information for your direction of travel before relying on a late connection; allow time for the onward journey from the station to your accommodation.[9][10]
A flexible three-day outline
Our suggested first day pairs Lungshan Temple with a Dihua Street walk. Give the National Palace Museum the main slot on day two, then choose a night-market meal. On day three, choose Beitou for history or Xinyi and Xiangshan for a skyline outing. This is an editorial outline, not a timed tour: drop a stop rather than rush a meal or a museum.[2][3][6][8][5][7][4]
Before you travel
Travel Health
Before travelling, review routine vaccinations with a qualified clinician; Türkiye’s travel-health page recommends keeping them current and provides further Taiwan-specific vaccine considerations. That page is marked last updated 7 February 2023, so use it as background and confirm current advice with a clinician. Discuss your own itinerary and health needs rather than treating every recommendation as an entry requirement. For drinking water, the Turkish authority describes boiling supplied water and notes that bottled water is available. Protect against mosquito bites during daytime outings: WHO says the mosquitoes that spread dengue are active during the day and recommends covering clothing and suitable repellent. Taiwan CDC also emphasises avoiding bites. WHO advises immediate care for severe dengue symptoms, including severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting or bleeding gums or nose. This is general prevention advice, not a current outbreak assessment or personalised medical recommendation. Recheck the linked authorities before departure.[11][12][13]

Best Time to Visit
For walking-focused days, our pick is November: the Taipei station normals combine lower rainfall with cooler daytime temperatures than summer. Winter is cooler still, so pack layers rather than assuming tropical heat. Summer has higher average daily maximum temperatures and substantial rainfall. These are historical monthly averages, not a forecast; check current conditions before a hike.[14][15][16][1]

A few useful answers
Frequently asked questions
How many days should I plan for Taipei?
Our suggestion is three full days for a selective first visit. That leaves one main outing per day and room for meals or a weather change. If you have only two, choose either Beitou or the National Palace Museum instead of treating both as obligations. The outline above is a starting point, not a minimum stay.[5][6]
Which airport MRT stops should I look for?
For Taoyuan Airport, the operator lists Terminal 1 as A12, Terminal 2 as A13 and Taipei Main Station as A1. Check the station and direction on the current service information. This advice is for Taoyuan arrivals; do not apply it automatically to a different airport shown on your ticket.[9][10]
What should I eat first?
Start with a breakfast of egg crepes or savoury soy milk, then try beef noodle soup for a separate meal. Taipei’s tourism food guide describes several broth styles, so ask which one you are ordering. Leave room for tofu pudding or shaved ice rather than making every food stop another full meal.[8]
